Alaska Marketplace: Investing in Alaska’s Best Ideas

2011 Competition

The 2011 Alaska Marketplace Competition will take place over a 17 month period, beginning with a call for applications, culminating with an award ceremony, and ending 12 months later when the innovative ideas have been implemented.

For the first time ever, 2011 participants may choose between two different tracks:

The Business/Nonprofit Applications with the most promising proposals will become finalists and will receive entrepreneurial training and implementation coaching to refine their concepts.

Marketplace business/nonprofit finalists will be announced on August 17, 2011.

Between August 17 and October 18, each Business/Nonprofit finalist will prepare an implementation plan with support from mentors and the AKM team. The final Marketplace Competition Event will be held in the Atrium of the BP Exploration Alaska Building on October 19, 2011 at 9:00am in Anchorage. BP Exploration Alaska is located at 900 E. Benson Blvd. at the southeast corner of Benson and New Seward Highway. At the Marketplace Event, finalists will present their plans and a world-class jury of experts will award seed money to each of the most promising ideas. The Competition is open to the public and anyone can participate by voting for this year's People's Choice Award. The public can vote for their favorite plan and help select the winners of the People's Choice Award.

All winners will be announced on October 20, 2011, during the plenary session (9:50am) of AFN's Convention at the Dena'ina Convention Center.
